Planned Parenthood is endorsing a candidate during the presidential primaries for the first time in its history: Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton.
The endorsement comes as little surprise, as Clinton has been one of the most outspoken advocates of the group as they faced a scrutiny due to incriminating videos.
“Yesterday was a preview of what would happen under a Republican president. Every single GOP candidate would defund Planned Parenthood,” Clinton tweeted on Thursday. “I’ll take on Republicans or anyone who tries to interfere with women’s health. Proud to have Planned Parenthood’s support in this important election.”
With congressional Republicans attempting to remove the group’s taxpayer funding, Planned Parenthood said that “there is no question” that Clinton would be “women’s health champion in the White House.”
Planned Parenthood Action Fund will officially endorse Clinton during a campaign event in Manchester, N.H., on Sunday. The advocacy group reportedly plans to spend $20 million on the presidential campaign and Senate races this cycle in crucial battleground states such as New Hampshire, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.
