Ingraham vs. Coulter: Does Trump’s bar-all-Muslims call go too far?

Talk radio host and Donald Trump supporter Laura Ingraham is distancing herself from the GOP front-runner’s call to ban all Muslims from entering the United States

“I think Trump is going to have to walk this back,” she said Monday evening on Fox News, referring to a newly released statement from the casino tycoon calling for lawmakers to halt to the entry of all Muslims into the United States. “Most people watching this are really scared; a lot of people are scared.”

“People are worried. They want a serious person, and a serious hand on the tiller,” she added.

Trump’s proposal to ban Muslims from entering the states comes just a few days after two radicalized Islamic terrorists, Syed Rizwan Farook, 28, and his wife, Tashfeen Malik, 27, shot and killed 14 people in San Bernardino, Calif., and injured dozens more.

Malik entered the United States in July 2014 on a K-1 visa, which allowed her to travel freely and marry Farook within 90 days of her arrival.

But despite fears over Islamic-inspired terrorist attacks in the United States, Ingraham maintained Monday that Trump’s proposal simply isn’t workable, explaining that he’ll need to retool his idea.

“I think in the end, [Trump] is going to have to change his formulation, the way he said it,” the radio host said. “We can’t stop a Muslim from Toronto who’s a surgeon coming into the country if he otherwise would meet the requirements — and that is what [Trump’s] statement would do.”

She reiterated later on Twitter that Trump isn’t wrong to suspect that the American people are worried about Islamic terrorism, writing, “Anyone who thinks [his] comments will hurt him don’t know the temperature of the American ppl.”

The real estate magnate’s team released a statement Monday afternoon explaining his plan to halt Muslim travel into the United States.

Trump’s team announced he is, “Calling for a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country’s representatives can figure out what’s going on.”

“Until we are able to determine and understand this problem and the dangerous threat it poses, our country cannot be the victims of horrendous attacks by people that believe only in jihad, and have no sense of reason or respect for human life,” the statement added.

Along with political commentator Ann Coulter, Ingraham has been one of Trump’s loudest and most faithful media boosters.

However, unlike Ingraham, Coulter hailed the GOP candidate’s call to block Muslims from entering the states.

“GO TRUMP, GO!” Coulter cheered on Twitter. “Anyone remember the GOP’s massive betrayal on amnesty earlier this year? And they wonder why Trump is killing.”

She added later that she’d take his pitch one step further, writing of his proposal, “Add in every other kind of immigrant and it’s perfect!”
