A MH-53E Sea Dragon helicopter assigned to the Helicopter Mine Countermeasure Squadron-15 crashed 58 miles southwest of Muscat, Oman, Thursday, and the fate of the five-person crew was not immediately known, U.S. Naval Forces Central Command said.
Naval officials said the crash was not due to hostile activity. However, “the status of the five crew members is still being determined,” a press release said.
The incident is currently under investigation, Naval officials said.
U.S. military officials said another MH-53E helicopter assigned to the squadron is on the scene, providing search and rescue assistance, according to the news release.
