Jim Carrey mocks ‘Dumb and Dumber’ Trump and Cruz

Actor Jim Carrey does not want to get mixed up with the political “dummies” using his movies to mock each other.

Calling out Republican presidential candidates Donald Trump and Ted Cruz, Carrey tweeted Friday “HEY DUMMIES, LEAVE ME OUT OF IT! ;^P #Americonundrum.” The post includes a photo of the original movie poster of the 1994 comedy “Dumb and Dumber,” with Trump’s and Cruz’s faces photoshopped over Carrey’s and co-star Jeff Daniels’. Daniels retweeted Carrey’s post.

Earlier in the week, Trump posted on social media a photoshopped poster for Carrey’s 1997 movie “Liar, Liar,” featuring Cruz’s face. “Who should star in a reboot of Liar Liar- Hillary Clinton or Ted Cruz? Let me know,” Trump asked his more than 7 million Twitter followers. The film is about a compulsive liar who is forced to tell the truth for a day after his son makes a birthday wish.

Trump frequently questions Cruz’s honesty. At a February debate, Trump declared the Texas senator “the single biggest liar” after Cruz said Trump would pursue liberal policies if elected president.

In response to Trump’s “Liar, Liar” jab, Cruz tweeted out a poster mock-up of his own. It shows Trump’s face photoshopped into the poster of Carrey’s 2000 dark comedy “Me, Myself and Irene,” in which he struggles with split personalities.

“Don’t take a chance on this new release coming to ballot boxes in November 2016… #ChooseCruz,” Cruz tweeted.

The altered posted quotes Trump: “I’m very capable of changing to anything I want to change to.” That was an answer offered by the former reality TV star and casino tycoon in February when asked if he could reduce his use of profanity.

It is unclear who Carrey is supporting this election, but if a movie quote of his is any indication, the Canadian-American actor does not align with a particular party.

“Republicans, Democrats, communists. They all look alike to me,” he said in the 2001 film “The Majestic.”
