GOP presidential hopeful Carly Fiorina dismissed Donald Trump as a “wonderful entertainer” to open the second GOP debate Wednesday night.
CNN’s Jake Tapper asked the former Hewlett-Packard CEO whether Trump has the temperament to become commander-in-chief. Fiorina dodged the question initially, saying temperament is something that will be “revealed over time and under pressure.”
“You know, I think Mr. Trump is a wonderful entertainer,” Fiorina started. “He’s been terrific at that business. I also think that one of the benefits of a presidential campaign is the character and capability and judgment and temperament of every single one of us is revealed over time and under pressure. All of us will be revealed over time and under pressure. I look forward to a long race.”
When told by Tapper that she did not answer his question of whether Trump has the temperament to lead the country, she directed the question to the voters, saying it’s not her place to render judgment.
“That’s not for me to answer,” Fiorina said. “It is for the voters of this country to answer, and I have a lot of faith in the common sense and good judgment of the voters of the United States of America.”
Fiorina sits fifth in the Washington Examiner’s latest power rankings, while Trump leads the pack.
