Lindsey Graham will host a fundraiser for Ted Cruz next Monday.
While Graham has not formally endorsed Cruz, the fundraiser is a sign that Graham at least prefers the Texas senator over Donald Trump and John Kasich, something Graham confirmed in a comment to the Washington Examiner.
“He’s the best alternative to Donald Trump,” he said.
Still, it’s an abrupt change for Graham. In February, Graham joked that Cruz is so disliked, that “if you kill Ted Cruz on the floor of the Senate, and the trial is at the Senate, no one will convict you.”
Graham sent out invitations Thursday to a meet-and-greet in Washington coinciding with the American Israel Public Affairs Council (AIPAC) policy conference. The invitation, CNN reported, encouraged guests to “honor and support a great friend of Israel and the Jewish people,” Ted Cruz.
Graham was a presidential candidate this year, and backed Jeb Bush after he dropped out. Bush has since dropped out, and Graham has yet to endorse a new candidate.
