ABC News White House correspondent Jonathan Karl dubbed President Trump’s first speech to a joint session of Congress “his most effective speech yet.”

On social media, Karl praised Trump’s speech as a departure from his usual off-the-cuff and often controversial style.

“This is Trump at his most presidential — his most effective speech yet,” said Karl on Twitter.

In his speech, Trump maintained his campaign message to push for American interests on international trade and foreign policy, while calling on unity between Republicans and Democrats.

In his opening, he acknowledged recent crimes that targeted Americans Jews and other minorities and said they “remind us that while we may be a nation divided on policies, we are a country that stands united in condemning hate and evil in all its forms.”

NBC “Meet the Press” moderator Chuck Todd also noted on Twitter that Trump was using a “different tone to sell his agenda.”
