Looks like President Obama will have more to enjoy this Labor Day than just a speaking spot in Detroit . He’ll have a soul concert to warm up the crowd, too.
Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin will perform Monday before Obama speaks near the Renaissance Center, headquarters of Chrysler and General Motors. Also performing will be members of Detroit’s Mosaic Youth Theater. The event — sponsored by the Metro Detroit Central Labor Council — will be free and open to the public.
This is the second time this month the president has gone to Michigan – having recently visited battery-factories in Holland, where he also attended a ground-breaking ceremony for a battery plant last year. During his Labor Day speech in Detroit, he’s expected to focus on jobs while touting the success of the GM and Chrysler bailouts.
