Gilmore: I’ll endorse any GOP nominee to fight alternative

Former Republican presidential candidate Jim Gilmore says he will back the eventual Republican nominee, regardless of who wins.

A Democratic president would take America in the “wrong direction,” Gilmore told CNBC’s “Squak Box” on Friday.

“I intend to endorse and support the Republican candidate for president because the alternative is either Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders,” Gilmore said. “They’re both talking about giving away everything and not doing anything to grow the economy.”

While he refused to endorse a candidate on the spot, Gilmore said government bureaucracy and regulation have overburdened Americans to the point that they are looking for a “radical solution.”

Trump, he said, offers voters that solution.

Gilmore, a former governor of Virginia, ended his campaign on Feb. 12, after poor performances in Iowa and New Hampshire.
