There were several GOP lawmakers who opted to boycott President Obama‘s jobs speech Thursday night, but Rep. Michele Bachmann wasn’t one of them. Still, she missed the festivities anyway due to severe thunderstorms battering the East coast and causing flight delays going into Washington.
Nevertheless, Bachmann delivered her response to the president’s jobs plan, dismissing it as “nothing more than a political speech,” adding that “the president and vice-president’s plan to spend us to prosperity has failed.” She outlined her own plan, which would include repeals of the president’s health care law and the Dodd-Frank financial reform bill, and measures to increase U.S. exports.
Bachmann did say she could agree with some parts of the president’s plan, including tax breaks for small business owners, but his ideas didn’t merit consideration on the whole. “The only remedies the President knows are temporary, government directed fixes,” she said in her response. “And even if the President’s plan passes, we already know it will fail.”
