Rubio picks up seventh Senate endorsement

Nebraska Sen. Deb Fischer endorsed Marco Rubio on Monday, and became the seventh U.S. senator to announce support for the Florida Republican.

Fischer, who sits on the Senate’s Armed Services Committee, praised the Florida senator’s national security knowledge.

“I know what the challenges are out there that we face, and no one knows these threats better, no one knows the challenges that we have in the world today — the dangerous world we face — than Marco Rubio,” she said on Fox News’ “America’s Newsroom” Monday morning. “That’s why I’m supporting him. He will be a strong commander in chief. He will keep us safe. He will keep our country safe. He will keep our families safe.”

Last week, Sens. Pat Toomey, R-Pa., and Tim Scott, R-S.C., threw their support behind Rubio.

The endorsement comes the day before the New Hampshire primary, and a RealClearPolitics average of polls says Rubio trails front-runner Donald Trump 31.6 percent to 14.6 percent.

Last week, Rubio came in a strong third in the Iowa caucuses, and picked up seven delegates.
