Texas Sen. Ted Cruz cast North Korea’s overnight detonation of a nuclear weapon as directly traceable to the Clinton administration of the 1990s. Cruz said the new weapons test also underscores the “sheer folly of the Obama-Clinton foreign policy.”
“When we look at North Korea, it’s like looking at a crystal ball. This is where Iran ends up if we continue on this same misguided path,” Cruz told reporters in Iowa. “It’s worth remembering back, North Korea has a nuclear weapon today because of the Clinton administration. The Clinton administration led the world in relaxing sanctions against North Korea. They used the billions of dollars that flowed into North Korea to develop nuclear weapons. Now we’re facing a megalomaniacal maniac who may potentially have a hydrogen bomb.”
The Texas senator went on to chastise the Obama administration for its employment of Wendy Sherman and her work in its negotiations with Iran, given her work on past negotiations with North Korea. Cruz called Sherman, “the one person on Earth who has already messed this up once.”
Cruz made the effort to leverage news of the North Korean nuclear test while on the campaign trail in Iowa. He ranks first in the Washington Examiner‘s newest GOP presidential power rankings.
