Trump tops Rubio, Cruz for top spot in Georgia

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump easily won the Georgia primary, topping GOP candidates Sen. Marco Rubio and Sen. Ted Cruz en route to the comfortable Super Tuesday victory.

Trump’s win continues his streak of dominance in the GOP field after winning three of the four early voting states. Previously, Trump won New Hampshire, South Carolina and Nevada all by double-digit margins.

Exit polls in the state initially showed a split outlook for Trump. Fifty-two percent of Georgia respondents said that they preferred a “political outsider” in the GOP primary, however, 48 percent also said that they would be “dissatisfied” if Trump were to win the primary and represent the GOP in November.

It is unknown how many of the state’s 34 delegates Trump will collect with the win due to their state’s proportional allocation.

Coming into the night, Trump held a comfortable lead over both Rubio and Cruz in polling. According to the final RealClearPolitics average, Trump sat in first with 36 percent, while Cruz and Rubio were in a virtual tie for second with 22 percent.

Trump is currently first in the Washington Examiner‘s power rankings. Rubio and Cruz are second and third, respectively.
