Despite holding a commanding lead over his Republican presidential rivals in his home state of New York, Donald Trump would lose the state in a general election, a new poll reveals.
Trump holds a 52-point lead over Sen. Ted Cruz, 64-12 percent, in a new Emerson College poll of likely GOP primary voters in New York, with John Kasich at 1 percent.

However, against either of the Democratic candidates in the state, Trump would lose. Hillary Clinton leads him by 19 points (55-36 percent) and Bernie Sanders leads him by 17 points (53- percent).
Should Cruz become the GOP nominee, he would face a similar fate in New York, losing to Clinton by 31 points.
Clinton, who was twice a New York senator, is favored by 48 points over Sanders in the state, 71 percent to 23 percent, which would give her a win in the April 19 primary.
The landline survey of 768 likely general election voters in New York was conducted March 14-16 and carries a margin of error of 3.5 percentage points. The survey of 298 likely GOP primary voters has a margin of error of 5.6 points, while the survey of 373 likely Democratic primary voters has a margin of error of 5 points.
