Sen. Marco Rubio has won financial backing from a prominent energy baron.
Larry Nichols, chairman of Devon Energy, a Fortune 500 company, said that while other candidates like Florida Gov. Jeb Bush were qualified to be president, Rubio came out ahead.
“As I have witnessed all of the candidates during past several months, during debates, speeches and interviews; I think that Marco Rubio is the candidate that’s most likely to be able unite this fractured country and move the United States forward,” Nichols told the Hill.
Nichols said he has given Rubio the maximum amount of money allowed by an individual. According to Federal Election Commission filings, Nichols also contributed to Sen. John McCain’s presidential campaign in 2008 and Mitt Romney’s in 2012.
Nichols said he plans to encourage his personal and professional networks to fund Rubio’s campaign as well.
