Donald Trump put aside past differences with fellow Republican presidential hopeful Ben Carson Wednesday, taking to Twitter to defend Carson’s comments about guns.
Carson lit up the mainstream media Tuesday when he weighed in about the recent shooting in Oregon that left 10 community college students dead and several injured. Following reports that the gunman singled out Christian students, Carson was asked what he would have done in a similar situation.
“Not only would I probably not cooperate with him, I would not just stand there and let him shoot me,” he told Fox News “Fox & Friends” Tuesday morning. “I would say, ‘Hey guys, everybody attack him. He may shoot me, but he can’t get us all.'”
The retired neurosurgeon has since been accused of failing to show concern for the victims and judging the reactions of those involved in the mass shooting. Trump, however, says those accusations are unfounded.
“Ben Carson was speaking in general terms as to what he would do if confronted with a gunman, and was not criticizing the victims. Not fair!” the billionaire tweeted Wednesday.
