For what would have been his 100th birthday, the Kennedy Center’s founding chairman, Roger L. Stevens, is getting quite the party.
Liza Minnelli and Harvey Fierstein will host a tribute to Stevens, who was tapped by President Kennedy in 1961 to establish a National Cultural Center, later named after the president. Many Broadway stars also are expected to attend the May 2 event.
Stevens died in 1998 after serving as executive producer for more of 200 Broadway shows, including “West Side Story.”
