Democratic presidential candidate Martin O’Malley confirmed Tuesday that just one person attended his campaign event Monday evening in Tama, Iowa, and also admitted that person isn’t even a firm O’Malley voter.
When it was suggested on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” that the lone attendee was probably a devoted supporter of O’Malley, the candidate said, “I hope so. I’m working on it. He claims he’s still uncommitted.”
Even so, O’Malley said he’s still optimistic, even though he’s barely registering in some polls taken of Democratic voters.
“I say it’s Iowa, people will wait here until the last couple of weeks, they want to see the whole campaign play out,” he said. “I wasn’t surprised that he was uncommitted, but I was glad he took the time to come out in the snow to see me. We almost canceled that last event, so we were out there anyway so we plowed through it.”
“[W]e actually had a whopping total of one person show up, but by God, he was glad to see me,” O’Malley added.
Sarah Blackman, a reporter and anchor for a radio station in Des Moines, Iowa, tweeted out a picture of the man, named Kenneth, sitting down with O’Malley in front of a dry-erase board that read “Tama welcomes Gov. Martin O’Malley!”

More than six inches of snow fell in Tama, Iowa, according to the National Weather Service.
Republican candidates Sen. Marco Rubio and Gov. Chris Christie were also scheduled to hold events in the state, but canceled, citing the weather.
