Political operative Roger Stone is calling on delegates to sign a loyalty pledge to his long-time ally Donald Trump at the Republican National Convention throughout the entire balloting process.
“We at Stop the Steal, the grassroots uprising, and March on Cleveland will ask every Trump delegate to the Republican convention to sign a pledge that ‘they will remain committed to vote for the winner of the primary or caucus as chosen by the voters’ through the entire balloting process,’ ” Stone wrote on Breitbart. “In other words, respect the will of the voters.”
Stone insisted that some “Trojan horse” Trump delegates were “inserted as quislings by the party bosses” to vote against Trump at a possible contested convention in July.
“The big steal happens even if Donald Trump hits the magic 1237!” Stone said in his Tuesday evening column. “The fix is in. The same insiders who have nearly destroyed the Republican Party are at it again, plotting in a backroom deal to block Donald Trump’s nomination as the GOP candidate for president.”
Stone also took aim at the media, who he says have taken his comments out of context “when he [I] called for Trump supporters to button-hole so-called Trojan Horse Trump delegates in their convention hotels and engage in a dialog with them last week.”
The pledge will be voluntary, he concludes, so “the voters will know whom they can trust — and who will play along with the insiders’ attempt to steal the nomination” from Trump.
The comments from Stone come as Trump’s rivals, Ted Cruz and John Kasich, work to prevent Trump from getting the 1,237 necessary to capture the nomination ahead of July convention in Cleveland.
