From outer space, presidential campaign looks ‘interesting’

What do astronauts on the International Space Station watch on television?

Asked if he’s been following the presidential campaign, NASA’s Scott Kelly told CBS’ John Dickerson, that the news is “on pretty much all the time unless we’re watching something specific.”

“We have coverage about 50 minutes every hour, so I do follow it very closely and I have to say it’s been very interesting,” said Kelly, who appeared live from the International Space Station.

Kelly is participating in NASA’s year-long study on how the space environment affects the body, while his twin brother, Mark Kelly, acts as the control subject back on Earth.

Scott Kelly, an astronaut since 1999, told Dickerson that he still enjoys looking out the window at the Earth, though the view gets old.

“The Earth is a very beautiful place. It’s thrilling to look at,” he said. “But like a lot of things, you know, if you see it often, it’s not as thrilling as the first time you’ve seen it.”
