Meet journeyman pitcher Josh Tomlin. His time with the Cleveland Indians might be coming to an end. The great Vince Grzegorek has a must-read feature on him.
Baseball has lost its mind. This nonsense, a game between the Mets and Dodgers just before the All-Star break is probably the future of baseball. Basically, it’s “bereft and bullpen-senseless losing baseball, an 11-inning game of modern home-run-or-whiff ball against the home-run-or-whiff Dodgers. With both teams pulling effective relievers as if they’d arrived at their one-station stops, 14 pitchers appeared.”
The cat who saved my life. As a kid, I had a great cat, Midnight. But being young, I never really appreciated her as a pet. Now, I have a great dog that, being older, I am better able to appreciate. Pets are great. It’s been about two years, so I’d like to point to this great item by Andrew Kirell about how a cat helped him turn things around. Read and share.
Will the nation’s nanny come after beach umbrellas? There’s totally an epidemic, you guys.
Stouffers 2.0. Before I was born, there was a restaurant chain in Cleveland called Stouffer’s. Perhaps you recognize it from your frozen food section. Like Ettore Boiardi (Chef Boyardee) these Cleveland restaurants rose from local popularity to national prominence by expanding into prepared food. Now, Chick-fil-A is doing the opposite. A nationally prominent fast food chain is expanding into meal service.
The moral ledger. Andy Smarick’s item from our most recent issue has gotten a lot of attention, and for good reason. Earlier Tuesday, contributing editor (and our podcast host) Charlie Sykes defended the item against longtime conservative activist Eric Bolling, who said the story is “more damaging to the GOP and conservatism than Donald Trump ever will be.” You be the judge.
Please don’t “own the libs.” Nikki Haley told the kids at the Turning Point USA conference that social media and on-campus behavior targeted at “owning the libs” was a bad idea. Not surprisingly, these kids didn’t heed her advice. Of course, the Free Beacon, has some satirical advice for these #rebels.
