Jim Webb stops short of saying he will run for president in 2016

Former U.S. Sen. Jim Webb of Virginia was hesitant to commit to a 2016 run for president.

“Taking it one day at a time,” Webb said to NBC’s Chuck Todd on “Meet the Press” when asked whether he would make an announcement about a presidential bid before the end of the year.

Webb, who could face Hillary Clinton, wouldn’t directly answer a question on whether the former secretary of state is a “qualified candidate” for president.

“I don’t think it’s for me to talk about Hillary Clinton,” the Democrat said. “I don’t know what she’s going to do, if she runs, what she will run on.”

Webb, who served in the Senate from 2007 to 2013, said the country is at a “crossroads,” with the American people “disappointed that top leaders in both parties have not been able to come together for the good of the country.”

He also emphasized that he does not differentiate between his principles being “to the Left or to the Right.”
