Despite “feelin’ the Bern,”actor Sean Penn says he is voting for Hillary Clinton for president.
“Bernie Sanders is an exceptional American, and I’m going to vote for Hillary Clinton,” Penn said Friday at a computer security conference in San Francisco, USA Today reports.
Penn cited his plans after referencing “the defecation on America that is the Republican debate.” He said this election season is making him miss President George W. Bush, whom he once said belonged in jail for deceiving the American people about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq that led to the Iraq War.
Describing the mindset of voters this campaign season, the “Mystic River” star said, “So many of them truly want to hate each other, want to bottom out their community so they can rise up in it, want to really devastate the rest of the world and maybe get into a civil war.”
Penn also commented on the current state of journalism, which he said is being “slaughtered” by the 24-hour news cycle. Penn himself has dabbled journalism, having scored interviews with Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, Cuban President Raul Casto, and most recently Mexican drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman.
Lamenting the face-paced nature of today’s news business, Penn said, “You can say what happened but you can’t say how it happened.”
