Ommanney bullied for being brash

Sure, the message was for teens, but when “Real Housewives of D.C.” star Cat Ommanney filmed a recent public service announcement to discourage online bullying and to support GLBT youth, she revealed she knew the issue all too well.

“I personally experienced online bullying and found it deeply disturbing,” she said in the video, filmed with most of her “Housewives” co-stars at Facebook headquarters in Washington.

Since the show started airing, Ommanney said she has encountered a lot of hate on the Internet, something she said she didn’t initially expect when signing up for a reality TV show.

“I’ve had some pretty intense haters targeting me for my character on the show and the way I’ve been portrayed and the way I’ve been edited,” Ommanney told Yeas & Nays.

The worst have been pages long and attacked her as a mother and called her children names.

“In the last few months I can relate to how lonely people can be made to feel when they are bullied,” she said. “Even if you’re on a TV show being watched by thousands of people, you can feel just as lonely.”

Ommanney told Yeas & Nays she’s regrouping from her “Housewives” experience by penning not one, but two books, with the second describing what her life has been like since coming to America.

Ommanney was joined by “Housewives” Lynda Erkeletian, Stacie Scott Turner with hubby Jason, Mary Amons with hubby Rich and “Housewives” bestie Paul Wharton in the PSA, which was created as part of Facebook’s “Network of Support” initiative.
