Cartoonists grieve Paris slaughter with ink and pen: Here are 14 of the best

Cartoonists everywhere are mourning the loss of 10 journalists who were killed Wednesday by Islamic terrorists.

The attack, which targeted the offices of Charlie Hebdo, France’s leading satirical magazine, is believed to be revenge for the magazine’s repeated cartoon mockery of Islam.

Declaring that they will never cowed by acts of terror, many of the world’s leading editorial cartoonists wasted no time taking to ink and paper this week to stand defiant and pay tribute to the dead.

Here are the top 14 best responses to the Paris massacre:

Notably absent from the great majority of the otherwise lofty editorial tributes to the murdered journalists is any mention or depiction of the prophet Muhammed, the frequent target of Charlie Hebdo satire.

Four of the murdered Charlie Hebdo staffers were editorial cartoonists. Two police officers were also killed. Several employees from the magazine are also currently being treated for serious injuries.
