Iranian TV has released a new video of the U.S sailors it captured last month crying while Iran detained them overnight.
The video clip shows some of the sailors crying, in addition to previously released footage of the sailors on their knees with their hands behind their head. It also reruns footage of one of the sailors apologizing for mistakenly entering Iran’s sovereign waters.
Iran detained 10 U.S. sailors in January for accidentally sailing two riverine boats into Iranian waters in the Persian Gulf after the sailors faced both navigational and engine issues. The sailors were held overnight the same night as President Obama’s State of the Union speech and released in the morning.
A female sailor in the video says that the Iranian treatment of the sailors was “good.”
The U.S. Central Command report found that two SIM cards from satellite phones were missing when they recovered the boats. The new video clip also shows the cover of a binder that says “RCB 802 CORIVFORINST 4590.1A CHECKLISTS.”
Some lawmakers were initially concerned that classified information had been stolen during the detainment.
Late last month, Iran awarded medals to its troops who detained the U.S. sailors.
The sailors who were involved arrived home in San Diego in late January to finish their debriefing.
Pentagon press secretary Peter Cook said Monday that a Navy investigation into what specifically went wrong is ongoing.
“The Navy is conducting its investigation, following its appropriate procedures and protocol, and again, when the Navy has something to report out about what happened and what, if anything, comes about as a result of that, you’ll hear that from the Navy,” Cook said.
