Obama is now less popular than Bush

President Obama is now less popular than George W. Bush, but neither is as well-liked as Bill Clinton.

In a recent Wall Street Journal-NBC poll on various politicians, 42 percent viewed Obama positively while 46 percent viewed him negatively, putting his approval four percentage points underwater.

The same poll showed 37 percent viewed Bush positively and 38 percent negatively, putting his approval one percentage point ahead.

Neither was anywhere close to Clinton, who was viewed positively by 56 percent and negatively by only 21 percent. That continues a long-standing trend for Clinton, who has viewed positively by more than 50 percent of respondents since 2008.

The poll of 1,000 registered voters was conducted Sept. 3-7. It had a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.
