Fox’s Chris Wallace gets into cringy discussion with radio host about pop singer’s weight gain

Chris Wallace, call your office.

The longtime Fox News anchor spoke Friday with conservative radio host Mike Gallagher about a host of issues, including pop culture and recent political events in the nation’s capital.

And as the two kidded and laughed like old friends, the discussion somehow turned to jokes about food and each other’s health. That’s when Gallagher started asking Wallace questions about pop singer Kelly Clarkson’s and her recent weight gain.

“Listen, don’t fat shame me. You do a lot of fat shaming,” Gallagher joked as they laughed about his own personal weight. “That’s the new phrase now. Fat shaming. Have you seen Kelly Clarkson? You know the singer, Kelly Clarkson? Holy cow, did she blow up.”

“Really?” Wallace responded. “Do we want to talk about some of your friends?”

“Well, look at me. I got some weight issues. I could take a little bit of weight off,” the radio host said.

Wallace then added in a somewhat confused-sounding tone, “Well why are you — Kelly Clarkson’s got a lovely voice.”

“I love her singing, but man,” Gallagher started.

“She could — she could stay off the deep dish pizza for a little while,” the Fox News anchors said.

Clarkson last June gave birth to her first daughter.

UPDATE April 5, 2:30 pm ET: Wallace apologized this weekend for his remarks on Clarkson’s weight, according to a stament obtained by the Washington Examiner:

“I sincerely apologize to Kelly Clarkson for my offensive comment. I admire her remarkable talent and that should have been the focus of any discussion about her.”
