Iran has released video of Wednesday’s arrest of 10 U.S. sailors off the Iranian coast, on the same day it released the sailors back to the United States.
Secretary of State John Kerry has called Wednesday’s release “a testament to the critical role of diplomacy.”
The Iranian seizure provided fodder to critics of the Obama administration’s nuclear deal with Iran, just hours before President Obama’s last State of the Union address to Congress.
Obama was criticized for not mentioning the arrest of the sailors in Tuesday’s address, but defenders argued it would have been imprudent to talk about it while his administration was negotiating with Iran for the sailors’ release.
Kerry was also criticized for attending the speech, and not tending to the matter personally during that time.
