Cruz has ‘zero interest’ in being Trump’s wingman

Although the Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump would not rule out making fellow candidate Ted Cruz his vice presidential running mate, the Texas senator quickly shot down the idea in an interview late Monday.

When asked if “Lyin Ted” would be his second in command, the New York billionaire, who leads the three next GOP candidates with the most delegates, told reporters “crazier things happen in politics,” but didn’t rule out the idea.

But Cruz was not open to the idea of joining Trump’s campaign as vice president.

“I have zero interest whatsoever,” Cruz told Wolf Blitzer. “Listen, if Donald Trump is the nominee, it’s a disaster. Hillary wins.”

Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton has maintained a double-digit lead over Trump in national polls that ask voters to choose between the two in a hypothetical general election. Cruz and Clinton are within one point of each other, according to a Real Clear Politics average.

Cruz also shot down taking on Florida Sen. Marco Rubio as his vice presidential pick, denying rumors that the campaigns have been mulling over the idea.
