He may already be on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram and Foursquare, but President Obama will be expanding his internet footprint still further, as “Obama for America” has started a page for the president on the web’s latest social media sensation — Pinterest.
The two-year-old site — a 30-person start-up based in Palo Alto, Calif. that’s gotten popular in the last few months — allows users to create digital pinboards where they can post or re-pin pictures either taken by members or collected from the internet. As of now, Obama’s page has eight boards that include one devoted to the First Family, “Obamart” from the campaign trail, campaign merchandise, and even recipes — like the Obama Family Chili recipe that’s sparking debate amongst foodies and politicos on the site. “Obama for America” tweeted the new project to followers on Wednesday, inviting visitors to check out “Organizers, infographics, murals, and cake — now pinning all of the above for #Obama2012 on Pinterest,” but the site is still invitation-only. Visitors must be invited by existing members to join, at which point they can create boards of their own and comment on the president’s pins.
