Jeb Bush to build lavish Kennebunkport home

Jeb Bush will be the latest member of his famous family to acquire a home on their 1.3-acre vacation property in Kennebunkport, Maine, as the expected launch of his presidential campaign draws near.

Bush’s 3,000 square-foot cottage will cost $600,000, the Boston Globe reported.

“[A]s he tries to appeal to middle-class Americans in his likely Republican presidential campaign — and distinguish himself as his own man, distinct from the legacies of his father and brother — having a vacation home erected on a spot of land in coastal Maine could be a vivid reminder of the complications facing his campaign,” the Globe wrote.

The Bush family has owned the Kennebunkport property for decades. World leaders such as Vladimir Putin, Nicolas Sarkozy and even Bill Clinton have reportedly visited the grounds over the years.

Barbara and George H.W. Bush are building the new home for Jeb Bush, according to the Globe.

Reports of Jeb Bush’s lavish cottage come days after the former Florida governor struggled to answer questions about whether he would have authorized military action in Iraq, as his brother did in 2003, given the facts known today.

Jeb Bush’s ties to a political dynasty as enduring as the Clintons have raised questions among GOP strategists of his ability to beat Hillary Clinton, the likely Democratic nominee, in a general election.
