Hillary Clinton was in Kentucky on Saturday to stump for Alison Lundergan Grimes, who seeks to unseat Sen. Mitch McConnell.
Clinton, a former secretary of state and senator from New York — and presumptive 2016 Democratic presidential frontrunner — said Kentuckians need to replace McConnell, who was first elected to the Senate in 1984.
“This is not just a contest between a permanent Washington fixture and a fresh face,” said Clinton, according to the WPCO Cincinnati. “It’s a contest between old thinking and new thinking.”
“This is going to be an election that really does come down to the wire, and it’s all going to depend on who turns out,” Clinton told the crowd. “If you’re tuned out, you’re going to have to live with the consequences. If you turn out, you’re to have Alison as your next senator.”
Grimes trails McConnell by nearly 6 points in the RealClearPolitics polling average.
