Six takeaways from the latest PPP national poll

The 2016 presidential election seems both miles away and right around the corner. Public Policy Polling’s latest national presidential poll shows some interesting trends as more candidates announce their White House intentions.

1.) Likely Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton leads the Republican field by anywhere from three-nine points, but this is down from her seven-10 point lead from February.

2.) Florida Sen. Marco Rubio is the closest to Clinton nationally, with 46 points for Clinton and 42 points for Rubio.

3.) Two other GOP hopefuls are within four points of Clinton: Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker and Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, both with 46-42.

4.) Rand Paul does the best of any GOP hopeful against Clinton with Independents, leading Clinton 47 to 33 points. However, as he launches his presidential campaign, 30 percent of voters view him favorably, compared to 47 percent who have a negative opinion.

5.) Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, former Texas Gov. Rick Perry and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie do the worst against Hillary Clinton, trailing her by seven, nine and nine points, respectively.

6.) Fifty-four percent of Democratic primary voters support Clinton, the same as in February. Her next closest competitor is Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, who has 14 percent.

The national survey of roughly 1,000 registered voters was conducted March 26-31 with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.
