Brooke hopes to see a woman in the White House

Barbara Walters thought former Republican Sen. Edward William Brooke was quite the ladies man, turning heads when she admitted to having an affair with the senator several decades ago.

On Wednesday, Brooke announced that he was indeed a ladies man, saying at his Congressional Gold Medal Ceremony that he’s looking forward to seeing a woman in the White House.

“What a wonderful thing it is today to have a speaker of the great House of Representatives — a lady,” Brooke said Wednesday morning.

He went even further to say he hoped to see a woman as president of the United States. But after Hillary Clinton’s unsuccessful bid for the presidency, besides Sarah Palin, not many names are being tossed around Washington. Though another GOP leader, Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele, was optimistic.

“There are, there are,” he told Yeas & Nays. “We’ve got a lot of candidates still thinking about what they are going to do, and we’re encouraging it.”
