President Obama is a famously avid golfer, but according to NBA star Stephen Curry, he is also a prolific trash-talker on the links.
Curry recently played a round of golf with his father Dell Curry, fellow NBA sharpshooter Ray Allen, and Obama. It was the father-son combo versus Obama and Allen, and Curry said the president did everything in his power to psyche out his opponents.
“The president was talking trash,” Curry told Jimmy Kimmel, to which Kimmel responded incredulously, “How do you talk trash in golf?”
Curry said Obama tried to play mind games with him and his father.
“There’d be like a four-foot putt, and in the friendly games where you’re not really playing for money or betting, usually it’s a gimme. He’d be crickets, just silent, looking at you like, ‘Are you going to mark your putt? Are you going to make that?’ Put the pressure on you and that kind of deal.”
The reigning NBA most valuable player mentioned that Obama even messed with his teammate, joking that Allen brought so many people with him to meet the president that he needed a bus.
“All that stuff, he’s just trying to get in your head,” Curry said. “Take your mind off the sport.”
Curry admitted that it was hard to relax during the game with “25 Secret Service agents on every hole.” Curry and his father eventually lost the game when Curry triple-bogeyed on the 18th hole.
“It’s probably for the best,” joked Kimmel. “You don’t want to get audited or something like that. You don’t want to mess with the president. You could wind up in a great deal of trouble.”
