Obama: ‘Possibility’ a bomb took down Russian plane

President Obama said Thursday that a bomb may have caused last week’s crash of a Russian plane over the Sinai Peninsula.

“I think there is a possibility that there was a bomb on board and we’re taking that very seriously,” he said in an interview with Seattle-based KIRO radio.

White House spokesman Josh Earnest was less precise on Thursday, and said simply that “we can’t rule anything out, including the possibility of terrorist involvement.”

On Wednesday, U.S. and British officials stated last weekend’s plane crash was likely due to a bomb that was planted on the plane before takeoff. Russia and Egypt have dismissed all rumors, but reports immediately surfaced saying the Islamic State may have been responsible for the crash.
