It’ll be sort of like the annual Conservative Political Action Conference here in D.C., but on a boat. The folks behind CPAC are planning a miniature version of the conference over water, scheduling the second annual “CPAC-at-Sea” to Alaska at the end of the summer.
Headlining the week is former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, who will be joined by prominent conservatives Grover Norquist, Ralph Reed and an assortment of others. So far, there’s no indication that Alaska’s most famous conservative, Sarah Palin, will be in attendance, but the current Republican Governor for the state, Sean Parnell, will talk to cruise ship participants during one of the stops on the week-long tour.
“It’s a neat opportunity with a smaller group,” explained American Conservative Union spokeswoman Kristy Campbell. “This is more of an experience…there’s mixing and mingling, there’s dinners.”
The cost of the cruise runs, per person, anywhere from $1,630 to $6,826. The luxury liner leaves from Seattle Aug. 27 and returns Sept. 3.
