Iran is planning to launch a never-before-used rocket into space as soon as this weekend, according to a report.
The Simorgh rocket has never been used before and would be used to carry a satellite into space. Nevertheless, the launch would violate the terms of the nuclear deal Iran agreed to with the UN Security Council in January.
UN Resolution 2231 states Iran is “not to undertake any activity related to ballistic missiles designed to be capable of delivering nuclear weapons, including launches using such ballistic missile technology.”
Iran broke that agreement earlier this week when it launched multiple ballistic missiles for the first time since 2012, according to the Department of Defense.
