N.C. police reach decision on riot charges against Trump

Donald Trump will not face charges for inciting a riot after two individuals at a rally in Fayetteville, N.C. got into a fight last week.

“The evidence does not meet the requisites of the law as established under the relevant North Carolina statute and case law to support a conviction of the crime of inciting a riot,” Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement late Monday.

“Accordingly, we will not be seeking a warrant or indictment against Mr. Trump or his campaign for these offenses,” the statement said. “While other aspects of our investigation are continuing, the investigation with regard to Mr. Trump and his campaign has been concluded, and no charges are anticipated.”

Last Wednesday, a white man at a Trump rally punched a black protester who had flipped off Trump supporters while being removed from the event.

The offender, 78-year-old John Franklin Graham, later said he wished he had killed the protester.

On Sunday, Trump followed up by saying he had told his campaign team to look into covering the suspect’s legal fees regarding the assault and disorderly conduct charges he was facing.
