Sen. Pat Roberts, R-Kans, endorsed his Florida colleague Marco Rubio for president Thursday.
Roberts dismissed the Republican presidential debates as “cage fights” and said that Rubio’s understanding of the presidency is “the antithesis of what Trump says.”
The Kansan believes Rubio can inspire voters and make the Republican Party bigger.
“He can give a very inspirational message. We need a president who will engage and be inspirational, be positive,” Roberts said, according to the Topeka Capital-Journal. “He keeps talking about growing the Republican Party.”
Roberts faced both a Tea Party primary challenger and a Democratic-backed independent opponent in 2014, but was re-elected.
The Kansas caucus will take place March 5.
