Obama: ‘You think we’re stupid?’

I said: ‘You want to repeal health care? Go at it. We’ll have that debate. You’re not going to be able to do that by nickel-and-diming me in the budget. You think we’re stupid?'” — President Obama in a conversation with private donors about the negotiations with Republicans to avert a government shutdown last week.

It turns out others heard the president’s remarks, including CBS Radio News White House correspondent Mark Knoller, who listened in on an audio feed on Thursday night after other reporters had left the room as Obama continued to speak into a microphone that he “may not even have realized was still relaying his conversation.”

Knoller has been recounting more of the president’s unguarded comments via Twitter since the meeting Thursday night, which included remarks about government workers and Republican Rep. Paul Ryan’s budget proposal.
