Police: U.S. tourist stabbed to death in Israel

A man that was killed in a stabbing spree in Jaffa, Israel, the port city next to Tel Aviv, was an American tourist, according to Israeli police.

The man was killed when a Palestinian stabbed seven people, police spokeswoman Luba Samri said Tuesday. The attacker was eventually shot and killed, according to the Associated Press.

No other details on the victim’s identity were immediately available. In Washington, a spokesman for the State Department said the government did not have confirmation of the man’s identity.

The deadly attack in Jaffa was part of a violent three-attack spree that wounded a dozen Israelis and left four Palestinian attackers dead across the nation.

The bloodshed took place on the day that saw the arrival of Vice President Joe Biden. Biden is in Israel on a two-day visit as part of a tour of the Mideast.
