Senate Dems raise record sum in July

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee raised a record $3.77 million in July, beating their Republican counterpart by more than $400,000.

While the Democrats are the minority in the Senate, the DSCC has out-raised the NRSC five of seven months in this cycle, leading by a total of $3.6 million.

The DSCC also significantly lowered its operational debt, although it still stands at $9.1 million. The organization says that this figure is lower than it was at this point during the last cycle.

During the 2016 primaries, Democratic contestants such as Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders have rallied against special interest groups and wealthy donors that contribute large donations to Republican candidates and causes. The DSCC said that for this reason, it is important for Democrats to raise even more cash to support their candidates.

“We are incredibly thankful for our grassroots supporters who helped make last month the best off-year July fundraising total in DSCC history,” DSCC executive director Tom Lopach said. “Republicans and their special interest allies like the Koch Brothers have spent over $13 million on television in an effort to rescue their vulnerable incumbents, and that’s why it’s so important that our generous supporters continue standing with us.”

“We will continue working hard to win a Democratic majority that focuses on governing responsibly and helping all Americans, not just the wealthy special interests,” Lopach added.
