JetBlue offers to fly officers to NYPD funerals

JetBlue said it would fly two police officers from departments along its route for free to attend the funerals for a pair of slain NYPD officers.

The airline said its offer applied to “to law enforcement agencies across our route network who wish to send representatives to New York to support their brethren … We are accepting up to two officers from each department (space permitting),” according to CNN.

The gesture comes as tensions are on high across the country following last weekend’s killing of Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu by Ismaaiyl Brinsley, a reprisal for the shooting deaths by police of unarmed black men Eric Garner, in Staten Island, N.Y., and Michael Brown, in Feguson, Mo.

Ramos’ funeral is Dec. 27, but Liu’s hasn’t yet been scheduled because the family is working to get relatives over from China. JetBlue said it’s figuring out if it can help with that, too.
