DETROIT — Ohio Gov. John Kasich assured his supporters in Thursday’s debate that he has no intention of getting out of the race and will fight until the Republican National Convention this summer.
Speaking in the moderate-heavy state of Michigan, Kasich said all the pundits have written him off, but he pointed to second place finishes in New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Vermont as proof that the best from him is yet to come.
“It’s not March Madness and we’re heading up north to my turf,” Kasich said. “I will win Ohio and I am going to move all across this country and … as people hear my message, you know what they say? ‘Why don’t you get any time on the debate stage?'”
Out of the four remaining candidates in the race, Kasich is currently polling the lowest, but he has planned to make in-roads during the later primaries. His state, Ohio, is a winner-take-all state in the primary and could be a huge feather in his cap as the campaign moves forward.
Kasich said his record of reining in budgets at the state and federal level would be the biggest reason to support him going forward.
“I have successfully on the federal and state level brought balanced budgets to this country and I want to do it again,” he said.
