It’s no secret that the internet is not only revolutionizing the way we communicate, but also changing the words we use — namely those IM or text-speak “initialisms” (abbreviations contracted to the initials of their words) that drive English teachers bonkers, like OMG, LOL and FYI, all of which have recently been added to the Oxford English Dictionary .
This news comes as OED has rejected some other “non words” for its newest edition, including; “freegan,” an eco-activist who dumpster-dives to save money and the environment; “nonversation,” a pointless and stupid conversation; and, best of
all, “xenolexic,” a name for someone who suffers intense confusion when learning new words.
