The red carpets are being rolled out as Washington plays host to a slew of stars all fall.
On Tuesday night, it was the 14th annual Noche de Gala that attracted the boldface names. The gala is an annual event thrown by the National Hispanic Foundation for the Arts. (Last year, Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor showed up and showed D.C. that she knew how to do the mambo.) This year, besides actors Jimmy Smits and Esai Morales, who are founders of the organization, Washington welcomed Brazilian actress Giselle Itie, who was the gal among guys in the summer hit “The Expendables.”
Itie talked to Yeas & Nays before the gala about her very brief trip to the District.
“It’s so beautiful here and the people here are so kind, I feel at home,” she said.
Itie flew in from her native Brazil to receive the Horizon Award, given to up-and-comers in the entertainment industry and whose past recipients include the likes of Eva Longoria Parker and Wilmer Valderrama.
“It’s a good moment,” she gushed.
And here’s a taste of what else is to come: Later this week, we’ll see Denzel Washington, Bill Cosby and lesser-known actress Roxy Olin from “The City.” And next week D.C. will be treated to a visit from “Twilight” hottie Kellan Lutz.
