‘Laura Ingraham, who?’ thought Meghan McCain

Meghan McCain will be forever linked to conservative talk show host Laura Ingraham thanks to their 2009 spat, when Ingraham basically called McCain fat. But McCain admitted Wednesday that she had no clue who Ingraham was before the radio host ridiculed the Daily Beast columnist for being “plus-sized.”

“Conservative pundit Laura Ingraham, who, at that time, I actually had never heard of, went on her radio show and criticized my column,” McCain said. “But not because of why you would think, she criticized my column by saying I was too plus-sized to speak out in politics and that the only reason why anybody gave me a job in politics was because I couldn’t get cast on ‘The Real World.'”

McCain appeared Wednesday night at the Newseum for a USA Network storytellers event, in which five storytellers, including actor Forest Whitaker, came up on stage and told tales of prejudice that they had encountered in their lives.

McCain’s tale was lighter than the others, focusing on Ingraham-gate and body image issues. She revealed that after her appearance on “The View,” where she proudly told Ingraham to kiss her “fat a–,” McCain went to the doctor to deal with her “weight problem.”

“All the test results came back and I’m not overweight and I don’t have a weight problem and I’m completely healthy, go figure,” McCain said.

McCain concluded the evening by sipping Bud Light and talking to friends, all the while confidently sporting a size 12 Diane von Furstenberg dress.
