A grand jury is set to decide sometime in mid-to-late November whether to indict Officer Darren Wilson for the shooting of unarmed teen Michael Brown, and the decision is set to cause more unrest in the Ferguson, Mo., area.
Ahead of the decision, Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon reiterated at a press conference Tuesday that the unrest in August following Brown’s death was “ugliness” that “cannot be repeated,” regardless of what the grand jury decides.
“This is America. People have a right to express their views and opinions,” Nixon said, noting that doing so should not put the safety of others at risk.
Nixon also revealed that the Missouri State Highway Patrol, National Guard and other county and city police departments will be working together as a group once the grand jury decision is made.
“Violence will not be tolerated. The residents and businesses of this region will be protected,” Nixon reiterated.
